Assistant Softgel Production Manager

The Assistant Softgel Production Manager is responsible for assisting with the management of day-to-day manufacturing and production activity of the softgel department, to ensure that products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and on schedule, while adhering to GMP, SOP, and OSHA/safety regulations and standards.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

- Assist with managing a 100+ person softgel production work unit (24 hours/5 days per week) in a manner that promotes high standards of work performance in accordance with SOPs, GMPs, quality regulations and safety practices and that promotes employee morale.
- Assist with overseeing the day-to-day productivity and performance of departmental employees for the 3-shifts.
- Lead, train, coach and develop supervisors, assistant supervisors, leads and all employees within the softgel department.
- Ensure that employee-training programs are accomplished on a timely basis, as assigned or needed.
- Ensure employees follow procedures as described in batch records, and that batch records are completed properly and submitted to Quality in a timely manner.
- Promptly handling work-related issues as they arise in a manner that maintains harmony within and between departments.
- Assist with planning and scheduling of softgel production processes (machines, medicine, gelatin, and inspection); ensures that the schedule is followed as planned, meeting required completion/end dates.
- Develop and implement programs to continually improve staff efficiency, working abilities, and communication skills.
- Troubleshoot softgel formulation and quality issues, as well as mechanical and functional problems that affect the production process, and if a reasonable solution cannot be achieved, execute a backup plan.
- Assist with ensuring the maintenance and sanitation (cleanliness) of softgel production equipment and processing rooms.
- Ensure that softgel machines are running at optimal speeds.
- Ensure that softgel machine changeover times and production downtimes are minimal.
- Ensure the manufacturing of quality products to meet all Company standards and specifications.
- Ensure production yields are acceptable.
- Assist Quality personnel when necessary with issues related to product quality, batch reconciliation or GMP issues.
- Schedule small pilot runs for R&D and sample purposes, as needed or requested.
- Perform administrative duties, such as completing production reports, records maintenance, employee payroll keeping requirements, injury/illness reports, etc.
- Communicate with other department personnel, senior management, and peers, and maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with all parties involved, in the performance of job duties.
- Ensure accuracy of inventory as it relates to production processes.
- Measure and report various key performance indicators as required by the Production Manager.
- Attend management-focused training sessions and departmental meetings, as requested the Production Manager.
- Perform other supervisory and managerial duties as needed/requested by the Production Manager.

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

 

Performs a variety of leadership duties and job tasks within assigned department and/or work area, ensuring that all applicable safety laws/regulations, as well as state/federal employment laws that pertain to position are followed in accordance with Company policies, procedures, standards, and work-rules.

- Supports Company policies, procedures, and work-rules and ensures that department employees comply with policies, standards, and work-rules.
- Assists with interviewing and selection process of new hires for department, ensuring that non-discriminatory laws and guidelines are followed.
- Trains and educates employees on Company policies and work rules (safety policies, work rules, and machinery safety); participates in injury/accident investigations, and completes necessary reports; conducts daily safety inspections of production work areas.
- Provides coaching, guidance, and training to department employees; ensures that employee meets company standards and work expectations as required by job description.
- Counsels and disciplines employees, as needed, to ensure compliance with Company policies, standards, and work rules; participates in employee suspension and termination meetings.
- Completes employee performance evaluation forms in a timely manner, and within the time allotted by the human resources department; conducts employee performance evaluation meetings with subordinate department employees.
- Sets a positive example of leadership for others within the department and throughout the organization; promotes a leadership style that encourages open communication, positive team-building efforts and employee morale.

Chemist

The position of Chemist is responsible for providing the support to the Laboratories of Best Formulations to ensure that the testing have been performed as per Best Formulations written Standard Operation Procedures, Analytical Procedures, and/or USP/NF Compendia under strict supervision of either senior chemist or lab supervisor.

Customer Service Representative

The Customer Service Representative is responsible in communicating with customers, meeting daily, weekly and monthly order requirements, updating status of orders and delivery of products.

HR Representative/Recruiter

Under general supervision, the HR Representative/Recruiter provides support services to managers, supervisors, and employees, in the areas of employment, HRIS, training, safety, performance management, HR compliance and record keeping, employee events and morale. Position serves as a source of information and expertise in the administration of HR policies, procedures, practices, and related disciplines, and provides solutions to workplace issues that support the Companyís operating principals, while ensuring legal compliance with applicable workplace laws.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

 

- Delivers all facets of recruitment for the organization. Works closely with hiring managers to build and deliver a robust and qualified candidate pool for both hourly and salaried team members. Focuses on candidate generation through networking, research and active sourcing. Uses networking opportunities, such as on-line and in-person community groups to identify external referrals for qualified candidates. Searches the internet using search engines, user groups and other creative techniques to find qualified candidates. Works with managers to seamlessly coordinate interviews, extend offers and coordinate the pre-employment processes. Conducts new hire orientation meetings, and prepares and processes new hire personnel/payroll paperwork.
- Creates and maintains HR files and record-keeping documents in accordance with applicable state/federal workplace laws pertaining to personnel, medical, safety, and workers compensation files, and I-9 documentation.
- Administers the Companyís Employee Performance Evaluation Program. Works closely with supervisors/managers to ensure that employee performance reviews are completed and issued in a timely manner, at 90-day interval for new hires and annually for all levels of personnel.

SOFTGEL INSPECTOR I

A Softgel Inspector I is responsible for providing support to the production department by inspecting, examining and removing the defective products and ensuring that all completed finished products meets SOP, GMP, and FDA regulatory compliance requirements. A Softgel Inspector I will have learned the basics of both inspection and packaging and be able to use more advanced equipment like polishers, metal detectors, moisture meter, and be able to set up and operate the sizer.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

 

- Spreads softgels on trays after tumble dryer.
- Visually/manually separates defects (e.g. leakers, odd shapes) from finished products, to ensure it meets quality specifications.
- Labels defect product appropriately.
- Packages product according to batch record specifications.
- Sets-up and operates the sizer.
- Operates the metal detector.
- Operates the softgel moisture meter.
- Operates, loads, and unloads a polisher.
- Ensures that packaging labels are accurately printed and correspond with the paperwork.
- Cleans and maintains processing rooms and equipment.
- Verifies batch record entries.
- Clearly and promptly reports questions, process and equipment problems to
- Ensures batch records, equipment log books, and other relevant records are up-to-date.

Maintenance Mechanic II

The Maintenance Mechanic II is to provide technical support for manufacturing equipment (Softgel or Unit Dose), Facilities and the Preventative Maintenance Program. The individual will possess additional skills, expertise and qualifications over a Mechanic I.

- Complete the Preventative Maintenance Program (PM) including relevant documentation under limited supervision. Assists in the design and development of PMís.

- Work with auditors, vendors, suppliers as needed.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts.
- Researches and obtains quotes for equipment, parts and services as needed.
- Support and may lead the training of other employees.
- Responsible to comply with all Company policies and procedures, including safety programs.
- Perform set-ups or changeovers of equipment as necessary for production schedule;
- Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge and experience with Dietary Supplement manufacturing and/or packaging equipment.
- Strong mechanical background and the ability to assess problem areas and make necessary repairs.

Material Handler

The Material Handler is responsible for providing support to the Warehouse Department, to perform manual duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies.

Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day production activity of the packaging department (Powder, Packaging, Pouching) as well as auxiliary areas Facility, Sanitation and Warehouse). Person will ensure that products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and on schedule, while adhering to GMP, SOP, and OSHA/safety regulations and standards.

Ensure the proper maintenance and cleanliness of production equipment and processing rooms.
Perform administrative duties such as completing production reports, maintenance records, employee timekeeping, injury/illness reports, etc.
Measure and report key performance indicators as required by senior management.
Follow established department SOP's, cGMP regulations, and batch record instructions.

A Machine Operator I in the Machine Room Department is able to run one type of softgel product on the softgel machines and spreads the product onto trays for drying. Operator I is an entry level to mid-level position where the individual is learning the basics of a Softgel Encapsulation machine.

- Trains other employees on how to spread softgels, perform changeovers/cleanings of Softgel Encapsulation Machines, monitor Softgel Encapsulation Machines and other duties associated with the department.
- Ensures batch records, equipment log books, and other relevant records are up-to-date.
- Cleans processing rooms and equipment.
